Orlando Car Rental Travel Guide - The Seas with Nemo & Friends
“I only hope that we don't lose sight of one thing - that it was all started by a mouse.” - Walt Disney
Although The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilion features the world’s largest saltwater aquarium tank, Orlando car rental customers visiting EPCOT will find that it is so much more than that! This newly re-themed attraction now features the characters from Finding Nemo and is one of EPCOT’s favorite attractions for children of all ages.
The Seas with Nemo & Friends Ride
During this delightful new ride, visitors ride along under the sea in "clamobiles," searching for the colorful clownfish with his friends from the movie, Finding Nemo, exploring their computer-animated undersea world. The animated characters join the live creatures in the Epcot pavilion's saltwater tank during the attraction's finale, blending in quite effectively, I might add!
Although this is a new ride at EPCOT and it is extremely popular, Disney employs its Omnimover technology on this ride, which keeps the line moving fast. If the posted wait time is more than twenty minutes, skip it and come back later in the day, when lines for the colorful new ride tend to be much shorter.
Turtle Talk with Crush
Featuring Crush, the talking “surfer dude” turtle from the Disney-Pixar animated film Finding Nemo, this attraction at The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilion is an interactive experience that offers guests in the small theater an opportunity to have a ten minute conversation with the 3-D animated character. Children especially love to ask questions and have them answered by the feisty turtle. He kiddingly jokes with members of the audience and seems all too real to children when Crush addresses them by name.
The theater that houses Turtle Talk with Crush is rather small. If you have little ones who would like to experience this attraction, you will either need to get to it first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon or early evening.
Bruce's Sub House
Bruce, Anchor and Chum - the “Fish Eaters Anonymous” member-sharks from the movie Finding Nemo - are present at this hands-on children’s play area. Besides being able to climb on and through the various Nemo-themed items, children can actually learn some interesting things about sharks by lifting the flaps on various displays, peering through periscopes and touching real shark skin in this “underwater” shipwreck-themed room.
This play area at The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilion offers many excellent Orlando vacation photo opportunities and it may be tough to tear your little ones away from the fun that they will surely have here!
Wait, There’s More . . .
Manatees, Stingrays, Starfish, Sea Horses, Jellyfish ... you name it, there is an exhibit for everything under the sea (sorry) at The Seas with Nemo & Friends. Be sure to check out the model undersea research facility of the future which includes space-age underwater diving suits, communication equipment and robotic submersibles. Observe divers from Sea Base Alpha - a working marine research facility - conduct experiments and interact with dolphins and sea lions. Watch large screen video presentations about our attempts to harness some of the natural resources that our oceans provide. Dine at the Coral Reef Restaurant and view sharks, turtles, rays and more while you eat.
For an additional fee, visitors to The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilion can sign up for three special tours and truly make their Orlando vacation one that they will never forget. Divequest (a thirty minute diving experience in The Seas with Nemo & Friends aquarium for certified divers only), Epcot Seas Aqua Tour (a surface dive experience in The Seas with Nemo & Friends aquarium for non-certified divers) and Dolphins in Depth (a behind the scenes experience where guests interact with and learn more about dolphins). The prices range from $100 to $150 per person for these once-in-a-lifetime experiences and theme park admission is not required or included. Space is limited for these tours and reservations are highly recommended. To reserve a space, you must have a major credit card and there is a 48-hour cancellation policy. Call 407-WDW-TOUR (407-939-8687) for more details or to reserve a tour.
Did You Know?
The Seas with Nemo & Friends aquarium is 203 feet in diameter, 27 feet deep and holds 5.7 million gallons of water. You could fit all of Spaceship Earth inside of the aquarium with room to spare.
There are more than 8,000 living inhabitants representing 70 different species of fish and underwater mammals at this attraction. Nearly two tons of food is required each week to feed all of the various sea creatures.
Mickey Mouse dives in The Seas with Nemo & Friends aquarium for special events. Also, because even “The Mouse,” himself, is required to make two dives per month to retain his certification, you may be lucky enough to visit at a time during your Orlando vacation when Mickey is taking a plunge in the aquarium.
Although there are no "clamobiles" available for rent yet in the Orlando car rental market, there are many other exciting vehicle choices to choose from. Reserve your Orlando car rental here!
