Orlando Car Rental Travel Guide - Test Track

Orlando Car Rental Travel Guide - Test Track Ride“All the adversity I've had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me... You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.”
- Walt Disney

EPCOT’s Test Track - the longest and fastest ride at Walt Disney World - gives EPCOT visitors an inside look at the world of automobile testing. Sponsored by General Motors, riders climb inside a six-passenger “test vehicle” as it is put through a series of performance evaluations.

Orlando Car Rental Travel Guide - Exhibit Inside of Test Track PavilionAs they meander through the substantial queue on the way to the main event, Test Track guests can observe “actual” tests being conducted with crash dummies. As you may have guessed, this attraction is a FastPass ride and arrangements should be made early in the day to ensure that you get one. Otherwise, you may miss out on one of the best rides in the entire Orlando vacation area.

During the action-packed Test Track ride, the following experiments will be performed on your vehicle:

  • Hill Climb Test: The light turns green and you know you are in for an adventure when the engine roars and the tires on your Test Track vehicle squeal before shooting up a three story incline.

  • Orlando Car Rental Travel Guide - Environmental Chamber Test at Test TrackSuspension Test: Your car begins its descent by driving over numerous harsh road surfaces on the way to the second level.

  • Brake Test: Your vehicle is taken through a set of cones twice to demonstrate the difference between having a car without an anti-lock brake system and one that does have ABS. The test without ABS is a wildly out of control ride.

  • Environmental Chamber Test: During this stage of Test Track, you and your vehicle experience extreme cold and heat as well as having a “corrosive mist” sprayed on it in a series of environmental chambers. The harsh difference in temperatures between the cold chamber and the hot chamber is 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Similar, I would imagine, to the temperature difference Northerners experience after leaving their winter digs and arriving here for their Orlando vacation!

  • Ride Handling Test: Here, your vehicle accelerates rapidly up a twisting mountain road and into a dark tunnel where you encounter hidden surprises.

  • Barrier Test: Almost feel what it would be like to be a crash test dummy during a startling, high speed chain of events.

  • High Speed Test: The fastest part of the Test Track ride, with speeds reaching 65 miles per hour, riders hold on as their vehicles shriek around a steeply banked 50-degree turn on the outside edge of the building. Once back inside of the building, the vehicles are put through a thermal imaging test so that guests can see the amount of heat that was generated by the various parts of their test vehicles.

  • Orlando Car Rental Travel Guide - Vehicle Prototype at Test TrackWARNING: If you would like to experience Test Track during your Orlando car rental vacation, you must be at least 40 inches tall. For safety, you should be in good health and free from high blood pressure, heart, back, or neck problems, motion sickness, or other conditions that could be aggravated by this adventure. Expectant mothers should not ride.

    Did You Know?

  • Test Track has the dubious distinction of being the most delayed project that Disney has ever created, opening three years after it was projected to.

  • Each Test Track vehicle has three onboard computers, six braking systems and twenty-two wheels (only four of which are visible).

  • Please don't try anything you've experienced at Trest Track with your Orlando car rental; I guarantee it would be a violation of your rental agreement! If you haven't done so yet, you can reserve your Orlando car rental here.
